About this Florida paycheck estimate

There is no state income tax on wages here, so the state line in your paycheck is zero. That does not make the paycheck simple, it makes the federal and FICA lines the whole tax story, and it makes the comparison with a taxed neighbouring state the useful question. No state income tax on wages. Source for the state figures: Tax Foundation 2026 State Income Tax Rates and Brackets. Federal figures: IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32 and Social Security Administration 2026 wage base. This page is a dated 2026 snapshot. Figures for 2027 will need a dated update, and withholding on a single pay stub may differ from this annual estimate.

At a glance for Florida: in one line: no state income tax on wages, so the state line is zero at every salary, and the federal and FICA lines decide the net pay.

One salary, with the state line at zero

A single filer earning $58,000 a year, paid monthly, with no pre-tax deductions, has about $4,833.33 gross per paycheck. Federal tax is about $398.33 per paycheck, Social Security about $299.67, Medicare about $70.08, and state tax about $0.00 per paycheck, giving about $4,065.25 net per paycheck and about $48,783.00 net per year in this estimate. Federal taxable income in that example is about $41,900, and state taxable income about $0 where a state deduction applies. Change the filing status or the pay frequency and the per-paycheck figures move even though the annual figures do not.

What zero state tax changes, and what it does not

There are no state brackets for wages in Florida. The state tax line is $0.00 at every salary in this calculator. That is the whole state story for wages, subject to any local tax note below.

No standard deduction is shown in the data file for this state. That does not mean nothing is subtracted on a real return, it means the state uses a personal exemption, credit, or another mechanism instead, which this wage estimate does not model as a deduction.

From salary to net pay when state tax is zero

First, annual gross pay is found from salary, or from hourly rate times hours per week times 52 weeks. Pre-tax deductions are subtracted. Federal tax uses the 2026 federal brackets and standard deduction, $16,100 single, $32,200 joint, $24,150 head of household, $16,100 separate, from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32. Social Security is 6.2 percent up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500. Medicare is 1.45 percent on all wages, plus 0.9 percent additional Medicare over $200,000 single, $250,000 joint and $125,000 separate. State tax is then calculated on state taxable income as described above, and the result is split by pay frequency.

Local tax: This calculator models state income tax only. If your city or county levies its own income or earnings tax, that amount is not in this result and must be added separately.

Checking a no-tax paycheck, question by question

Why is my net pay lower than salary divided by pay periods?

Because federal tax, Social Security, Medicare and state tax are taken out before you are paid. Gross divided by pay periods is before tax, net is after tax.

Is the top rate the rate on my whole salary?

No. In a graduated system each slice is taxed at its own rate, and in a flat system the rate applies only after the deduction. The effective rate, total state tax divided by gross pay, is the comparable figure.

Why might my real paycheck differ from this estimate?

Your W-4, your employer's withholding table, credits, itemized deductions, and any local tax or employer-specific deductions can all move the real figure. This page is an annual estimate, not a replica of one pay stub.
